Technical Lead - Platform Integration

Job description

Technical Lead — Integration & Platform Engineering
Auckland | Permanent | Hybrid

A large, complex Auckland organisation is building out its Platform Engineering practice, and is looking for an experienced Technical Lead to drive the evolution of its enterprise integration capability.

This is hands-on technical leadership, not people management. You'll own the integration platform technically, setting the standards, writing the patterns, and lifting the engineering bar across the team. If you like solving genuinely complex enterprise problems and influencing direction, this may be for you.

The opportunity
Working inside the Platform Engineering practice, you'll partner closely with architects, product teams and delivery squads to establish best practice, uplift engineering capability, and keep the integration platforms reliable, secure and fit for the future.

The environment is broad and still maturing. There's real scope to shape how integration is done here rather than inherit someone else's finished playbook.

On the integration side, you'll:
  • Provide technical leadership for the MuleSoft platform

  • Design scalable API-led connectivity solutions

  • Establish integration standards, patterns and reusable frameworks

  • Support API governance and lifecycle management

  • Drive integration platform modernisation initiatives

On the platform and DevOps side, you'll:
  • Champion DevOps engineering practices across the team

  • Lead Infrastructure as Code implementation across Azure environments

  • Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines

  • Drive platform automation, and improve security, observability and resilience

  • Establish reusable cloud platform patterns and guide teams on how to use them

Alongside that, you'll mentor engineers across the practice and work with architecture, delivery and product to keep engineering solutions tied to business outcomes.

What you'll bring
  • Around 10 years designing and delivering enterprise integration solutions, including time at technical lead or principal level in a large, complex organisation

  • Hands-on MuleSoft Anypoint — Studio, API Manager, DataWeave, and CloudHub or Runtime Fabric

  • Strong API-led connectivity architecture, REST, asynchronous messaging and event-driven integration patterns

  • Real DevOps depth: pipelines you built and owned yourself, Infrastructure as Code, and automation as a default habit

  • Experience working in Azure environments

  • A track record of establishing integration standards, reusable frameworks and governance practices and getting them adopted

  • Strong stakeholder engagement, with the ability to influence technical decisions at every level

  • A genuine appetite for mentoring engineers and raising engineering standards

We're particularly interested in people with a software engineering or SRE background underneath the integration work, i.e engineers who understand the APIs, protocols and messaging mechanisms, not just the tooling that wraps them.

Useful, but not essential:
  • Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions

  • Azure API Management

  • SAP Integration Suite or SAP PO

  • Confluent Kafka and event streaming platforms

  • Kubernetes and container platforms

  • Observability tooling such as Splunk or Azure Monitor

  • Experience in a large, multi-platform enterprise environment

If you have most of this but not all of it, we'd still like to hear from you.

Applicants must be Auckland-based with existing New Zealand work rights, and available onsite two fixed days a week.
