LCS - Survey Technician

Job description

Licensed Cadastral Surveyor / Survey Technician
Waikato
(Hamilton-Cambridge)

Be part of a region that’s building New Zealand’s future.

The Waikato is growing fast — new subdivisions, infrastructure upgrades, and regional developments are reshaping the landscape. Whether you’re a seasoned Licensed Cadastral Surveyor or an experienced Survey Technician ready to step up, this is your chance to join one of the country’s most progressive regions while enjoying a relaxed, family-friendly lifestyle.
We’re partnering with a mix of well-established consultancies and emerging firms across Hamilton and the greater Waikato, all looking for skilled surveyors to help deliver high-impact projects and mentor the next generation of professionals.

About the Role

You’ll be involved in a range of land development and infrastructure projects, from large-scale residential subdivisions to commercial and industrial sites. You’ll work alongside engineers, planners, and digital teams delivering smart, accurate, future-focused survey solutions.
We’re in an exciting phase for geospatial and surveying technology — new tools and data capture methods are changing how the industry works. These consultancies are adopting modern workflows, exploring automation, cloud-based data, and even early AI applications to challenge the “same old way” of doing things.
  • Work with modern survey tools: 12d, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Leica, Trimble
  • Collaborate with cross-disciplinary project teams
  • Great mentoring and clear career pathways
  • Flexibility and autonomy to make an impact
About You
• 5–10+ years’ experience in cadastral and/or engineering surveying (NZ, AUS, UK)
• BSurv or equivalent tertiary qualification
• Licensed Cadastral Surveyor, or a Survey Technician of all levels
• Member or eligible member of Survey & Spatial NZ (S+SNZ) a plus
• Proficient in 12d, CAD/Civil 3D, ideally with modern data workflows
• Strong communicator with experience managing client relationships
• Accurate, reliable, and confident working independently
• NZ citizen or resident with a full NZ driver’s licence

What’s in it for You
• LCS: $150,000 - $250,000 + vehicle
• Senior Survey Technician: $110,000 - $180,000 + vehicle
• Intermediate Survey Technician: $80,000 - $110,000
• Leadership and shareholding opportunities for the right person & seniority
• Supportive, people-first culture - no red tape, no micromanagement
• Flexibility, professional development, and long-term stability
• Relocation assistance available for candidates returning to NZ (proven NZ experience)

Why “The Mighty” Waikato?
The Waikato delivers the best of both worlds - big opportunities with a relaxed pace of life. Hamilton and the wider region are growing fast, with major infrastructure, land development, and innovation projects driving serious career momentum.
Enjoy good schools, shorter commutes, and affordable housing, all within easy reach of beaches, mountains, and lakes. From the surf at Raglan to weekends on the Waikato River or adventures in the Coromandel, life here feels balanced, connected, and full of opportunity.
For many, this is a chance to come back to their roots, raise a family, or find more balance while still working on projects that shape the country’s infrastructure and communities.
