About the role As an Environmental Scientist (Groundwater), you’ll play a pivotal role in research, monitoring, and analysis of groundwater quality and quantity. Your work will directly inform strategy, policy, and community outcomes, with responsibilities including:
  • Designing, implementing, and managing groundwater monitoring and investigation programmes.
  • Providing technical advice and expert analysis to decision-makers, stakeholders, and community groups.
  • Contributing to strategies that address natural hazards, climate change, and environmental sustainability.
  • Building partnerships with research providers, tangata whenua, industry associations, and local/national government agencies.
  • Translating complex scientific findings into clear, practical advice for diverse audiences.

About you We’re looking for a highly motivated scientist who thrives on collaboration, problem-solving, and delivering real-world impact. You will bring:
  • Postgraduate qualification (MSc or PhD) in a relevant field.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in groundwater or related environmental science.
  • Strong understanding of relevant legislation, standards, and resource management frameworks.
  • Proven ability with data analysis, GIS, modelling, and scientific reporting.
  • Exceptional communication skills with experience engaging iwi, community, and professional stakeholders.
  • Commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and working in partnership with mana whenua.
  • A current driver’s licence and the ability to undertake field-based work.
