Team Leader – Environmental Monitoring to guide a skilled team of technicians in delivering vital environmental monitoring programmes across Southland.
This is an opportunity to step into a leadership role where your expertise will contribute directly to the long-term sustainability of our environment.
About the role As Team Leader – Environmental Monitoring, you will:
- Lead, mentor and develop a dedicated team of environmental monitoring specialists and technical officers.
- Oversee field operations for long-term environmental monitoring programmes, ensuring effective and efficient delivery.
- Drive innovation in data collection methods, technology and environmental monitoring practices.
- Support flood warning operations, including occasional out-of-hours work as part of a 24-hour service.
- Build strong relationships with iwi, research partners, government agencies and the wider community.
- Contribute to science strategies, research initiatives and data management systems that underpin evidence-based decision making.
This role is ideal for someone who can balance technical expertise with people leadership, while also providing credible influence across a range of stakeholders.
About you To succeed, you will bring:
- A relevant science degree and at least 5 years’ experience in environmental monitoring, with 3+ years in leadership.
- Strong knowledge of monitoring and sampling methods, data systems and quality management practices.
- Project management experience and the ability to deliver results on time.
- A collaborative, innovative mindset, with the ability to motivate, guide and coach your team.
- Excellent relationship management skills and confidence working with iwi, community groups and government partners.
- A current driver’s licence and willingness to work both in the office and outdoors, in all conditions.
